Hi everyone! This is my first blog! I’ll start by telling you about myself. My name is Armani and I just finished my sophomore year in high school. I’m in a couple school clubs and also participate in cross country, basketball and lacrosse, and I’m stressing myself out more by taking honors and AP classes! With my junior year starting in the fall, I’m even more nervous for the ACT and SAT. I’ll use my first blog to share some info I learned about taking the ACT. About 2 months ago I took a practice ACT just to see what I needed to work on. When everyone got their scores back, there was a lecture that gave us tips on how to study. I took a few notes, and here they are! And although some of these are just kind of common sense advice, I’ll put them anyway.
* The higher the # question, the harder it is. Example: question 3 is going to be easier than question 42
* For the essay, the graders look for topic sentences, introduction, 3 body paragraphs (address other point of view in 3rd paragraph), a conclusion (even if it’s just one sentence restating your thesis), and examples. Also, the longer the essay usually will get a better score. But if your essay isn’t long, don’t just put a bunch of filler words in, because that could lower your score.
* You should answer the questions in order of difficulty.
* If two of the answer choices for a question are opposites, it is most likely one of those answers. Example: A. big B. small C. orange D. ugly The answer is most likely A or B
