What makes colleges want you? It’s competitive out there, and sometimes the test scores and GPA’s aren’t enough by themselves. What can you do? Studying and grades aside, here are a few ways you can make yourself more desirable.
-Find something that you have a talent for. Are you good at lacrosse? Great at being the head of your school’s recycling program? If you like doing it, and have a knack for it, colleges will like it, too.
-Be selfless. Yes, that sounds cheesy. But put in your time in your community: get in those service hours, work at the soup kitchen, tutor others at subjects you excell at, go above and beyond. If you’re not just interested in yourself, colleges will be interested in you.
-Sports. Who knew being coordinated could be such a good thing? But the truth is, a talent for a sport could get you on a team for a university, could get you a scholarship, or just show admissions people that you are focused and can devote yourself to something. That’s a good quality.
-Have some passion. If you’re doing something that has a special place in your heart, that really means something to you, that enthusiasm will be contagious. Do what you love.
Remember: if colleges have a reason to want you, they probably will. So show them what they’re missing in you! Whatever you’re good at, it can be put to good use.
