I don’t know if it’s just me or not. But, everytime I go to the mailbox, I’m bombarded with a million tons of mail from colleges. They all seem so good on paper and when college representatives call they seem so informative and they make me want to attend their schools. I have a list of 10 colleges right now and that’s the condensed one. It seems like everyday I get persuaded to apply to another school because they all have so much to offer and they seem like they fit me.
But, I’ve made up my mind. I’m sticking to the list I’ve made. All the schools that I’ve selected really seem like a ideal fit for me. I’m really excited about this fall too. I get to talk to my counselor and tell her exactly what colleges I’m looking at and get all of my applications in.
I’ve heard that I should only apply to about 5 or 6 colleges. But, I also heard that I should apply to whatever colleges seem like a good fit for me and offer what I’m looking for.
And that’s pretty much what I based my decision on. I looked for schools that offered my major and have great student organizations and I’m ultimately satisfied with the list.
I think that it’s really important to really think about what you want out of college. People always tell me I should go wherever they’re offering a lot of scholarship money, but to me that isn’t important. If I got accepted to my first choice, then I’d definitely go there, even if I got a full ride to another school. In the long run, free money isn’t the most important factor. The most important thing is deciding if what school you chose is the right fit for you and if they offer all of the things that are important to you.
