Scholarships & Essays

Getting into college is the easy part; the real work comes in when you’re looking for free money. There are tons of scholarship opportunities out there, but you really have to look for them. Scholarships are pretty easy to find, but they require a lot of work. It takes a lot of patience to search for all the opportunities that are out there. It’s best to have a folder or binder solely dedicated to scholarships and a planner that keeps track of all the scholarship deadlines you find.

A number of scholarships ask for an essay about who you are as a person, your college and career goals, etc., it’s best to keep a few generic essays that encompass those topics and you’re able to tweak later. Although, some scholarships ask a specific question or focus on a certain topic and then you actually have to work a bit harder for that particular opportunity.

Scholarships are great way to decrease your college costs. Don’t let the idea of scholarship essays intimidate you and discourage you from applying for a great opportunity, you’re only decreasing your chances and making it easier for someone else to get the opportunity.

Some great ways to find scholarships are through sites, such as, scholarships.com and fastweb.com. Fastweb also contains internship and job opportunities.

Reminder: Start searching and applying for scholarships as soon as possible.
