I am a horrible standardized test taker! Do you have any tips that will help me get a good score on the upcoming ACT or SAT that play a big role on determining what college i go to?

If you feel like you’ve studied more than enough, then one of the greatest tips is to calm down, and take the test at your own pace. Even though the test may be timed, it doesn’t mean to panic and freak out because "there’s no time". It still means to use your time wisely when answering every question.
Not to sound like a promoter, but the practice ACTs and SATs really help, as do the prep classes. I’ve taken one practice ACT, and it was so helpful, I plan to take more. They even let you keep your testing booklet, so you can go over the answers you got wrong, and you get lots of feedback, too!
TAKE IT MORE THAN ONCE!!! I’m a generally good test taker, but I took a few practice tests this year (freshman year) including the ACT and SAT. I’m really glad I did. My scores were pretty good, but they say that your test scores raise 10% every time you take it, so the more the merrier. Plus, once you’ve already taken it, it’s a lot easier! You know what’s happening and what the test is like.
Get an Act/SAT tutor they can give you pratice test and other things to help you out. Getting the time down right and being calm can be hard, but with pratice it will get better. Also, make sure you bring a good eraser.
well last year my school gave us a test taking class and one part that really helped me is to eliminate the obvious . you should skip over the answers you know are not correct and then weigh out the answers you have left. That tip really helped me and it still halps me when it come to test taking .another tip is to use whatever resources u have before you go to take your test .now, if you dont know what to ecpect on the test just go over a little bit of everything so that you will be ready for whatever.the last tip which really helps alot is to not be scared ,just act like it is a normal assighnment.
A lot of standardized testing problems come from test anxiety. A big help would be to try and reduce that. To do that, try and prepare (practice tests, reading about the test, etc…) beforehand rather than the night or a few nights before. Try to go into the test knowing that you are confident on the material and that most of the test is common sense. Relax at all parts of the test and try not to freak out when some of the questions get hard; move on and answer the easy ones first. Also, make sure to bring an ample amount of snacks and water for breaks as indulging in these during breaks can help take your mind off the test for a bit, and they give you an excuse to get out of the testing room. Another way to help reduce the anxiety is making sure you have everything ready the night before–keys, ID, admissions ticket, a jacket, calculator, snacks, water bottle, multiple pencils, and anything else you may need. Aside from this, I found the Kaplan ACT prep book to be extremely helpful and I highly recommend it–it was definitely a good investment!
After a while I grew to like testing because I saw it as a game that I wanted to win; I had fun with the questions and tried going at it with a more light-hearted attitude and just tried to do my best each time I took the test. The preparation was definitely the best though
and you can buy sat and act books and guids ,from previous year like i just got a 2006 sat study guide .you can get themany where ,like thrift stores and book stores like borders .
