5 Responses to The world and the ecomny is trying to go green. However, how can you go totally green when it will knock down some of our ecomny success?
Well, actually, going green can save money. My mom has a hybrid car, and it gets incredible gas milleage, which saves her a ton of money in refilling the gas!
The parts of our economy that are going to suffer from the green revolution have to. The oil industry will fall, but that is necessary in the long run, there is no sustainability to this company. Success is also a relative term, if being successful for 50 years and then there being no economy to succeed in is a definition of "success" then no need to worry. It is not a matter of trying to go green, the world as it is has to, unless we all want life to be unejoyable to our grand children. Economic success has absolutly no relavence when compared to the success of the human condition, so some people can live in utter excess and without any idea that their luxury costs lives, happyness, health in general, is a totally impractical and unethical point to take. so thats how we go green, we lose some economic success in the areas that would eventually run out of the resources that power their industry, and take that pain now, and allow an industry based on innovation, change, and new thinking to take root and possibly start something much better then the "go green" movement. not to mention, if you do not beleive that the green movement is necessary for the future, thats your opinion, but we also must see it from a purely economic stand point, renewable energy, plant based plastics, all of these will cause very new growth in all parts of our economy. if nothing changes then their wont be new jobs, their wont be change, which is needed for any economy to compare with the leading countries in the world.
This is very true however we are going through a recession right now. By "going green" we are only downsizing our ecomny even more. I am not aganist it because yes it will better improve the health and well being of further generations. However, the generations would have to rebuild what was already created. This is only hurting ourselves from advancing as a people. Besides, who knows how long it will take for us to build back up the sucess we already have. It is bad enough we are going through a crisis, to add more upon ourselves by takng away some of the business that benfit much to us. Yes, we can continue to come up with ways to reduce our carbin footprint but some things we just can’t live without. I am not aganist the whole green movement but let us think clearly. Some things must remain the same
Instead of looking at the economy as a mere chain-reaction of events, consider an economy-web of sorts. For example, I bike 7 miles to campus each day instead of taking the bus or driving. On the one hand, that choice is bad for the CATA bus because they are not getting my money, which may hurt them. Also, I am not paying for gas or harming the environment. This could be seen as bad for the economy. However, my bike was made in the USA, I buy my wheels ($90 each) and tires ($60-$75) from a place in Maine, my jerseys ($55 each), gloves ($15), helmet, and other special clothes all come from local bike shops. By supporting those businesses I am helping them to hire more people, ship more product, and buy more products. So, my point is, without dragging on, consider what else the money is being spent on.
