The most importatnt thing in choosing a college is if it has the program you are interested in. You don’t want to waste your time or money on a college just because it has a nice campus and find out that it doesn’t offer the program you are interested in.

You should think about first is what you want out of a college. What expetions you have for the campus and classes. Second, you should think about career choices up your field. Third, think about what kind of campus life you would like to have. Do you enjoy being around alot of people or would like a small capus life. Last but not least, choose which college is affordble for you.

I think that the most important thing to think about when choosing your college is ‘Who Am I’ – cliche but true. I would encourage you to consider these questions put together by Marty O’Connell, author of Colleges That Change Lives.

    -Why, really, are you going?
-What are your abilities and strengths?
    -What are your weaknesses?
-What do you want out of life, or in life – something tangible or intangible?
-Are you socially self-sufficient or do you need warm, familial support?
-What kind of learning community do you want to be part of?

These are just a few to explore with your friends, family, high school counselors – the people who best know you!

The college years should be enjoyable, as should the election process. So get on some campuses and feel them out, ask questions and wander around. You won’t know if it fits until you try it on!
