I Have Arrived…

On August 22nd, I moved into my dorm at Michigan State University. At first, I felt a bit nervous and didn’t know if I would like the whole college thing. However, once I walked around campus on Thursday, I felt … Continue reading

AOP, State & Me

I recently finished AOP (Academic Orientation Program) at Michigan State. It was pretty exciting, I met new people and experienced just a bit of college life. The sessions provided a lot of great resources and they made me really sure of the success I can achieve at State. Though AOP was fun, it made me aware of the responsibilities that come along with college. I was able to schedule classes and that’s when the real feel of college life came hit me. Scheduling classes proved to be a long process, for me anyway.

Compromising for the Sake of Sanity

As an impulsive person, it’s hard to make a decision or come to a general consensus of what to do. The biggest decision of my life so far came when May 1 rolled around. For those who don’t know, May 1 is the day when high school seniors make their final decision regarding what college to go to. It was a pretty big deal for me; I was torn between 3 schools for a while and then it came to the final 2. I had plans to leave the state, but little did I know, when you leave the state the costs are super inflated. However, if I stayed in Michigan, then I would be paying much less. Continue reading

AP, Decision Day & more

Taking AP courses are challenging. However, taking them really helps you. It prepares you to work at a college-level of intensity and determine if you are able to handle the rigor of the assigned work. Even if you take one AP course, it will help you tremendously.

The Perils of Decision Making

I thought I actually knew where I wanted to go to college. It’s practically May and I have to make the final decision. Of course, I thought I would attend Bowling Green, but then I think about the what ifs. Sure, BG is a good school, but when you’re looking to rack up loans totaling 15,000 in your freshman year, things look differently. It’s extremely hard to make a decision when college is involved. I told people that they should always pick the college that’s best for them or they’ll regret their decision. It’s weird how I can never take my own advice. Continue reading

Scholarships & Essays

Getting into college is the easy part; the real work comes in when you’re looking for free money. There are tons of scholarship opportunities out there, but you really have to look for them. Scholarships are pretty easy to find, but they require a lot of work. It takes a lot of patience to search for all the opportunities that are out there. It’s best to have a folder or binder solely dedicated to scholarships and a planner that keeps track of all the scholarship deadlines you find.

Don’t suffer from Senioritis

I know that as a senior, it’s extremely hard to focus. You’re excited about graduation, prom and college and the reality of all the fun you can have hits. You realize that school is almost over for you and you’re on your way to adulthood. You start to slack off in school and everything that you’ve worked for goes downhill.

Senior year can be both good and bad. The good thing is you’re finally graduating and you are finally able to attend college. The bad thing is if you slack off, your dream college might not want you anymore.

Giving Back

In my senior year, (well, the first semester since I’m still a senior) I joined a student service group. It was by far one of the best decisions I made. At first, I joined because I wanted another extracurricular activity, but as I volunteered it became more than that. I learned the importance of helping others and being grateful for what I have. I had the chance to work with adults who were developmentally disabled and it was one of the most impactful experiences of my life. Continue reading

What Suits You?

I’m really excited about the public launch of ItsMiLife. Hopefully, it will generate a bigger user base and allow for better conversations to develop about college and more ideas can be shared. I think that I’m really fortunate to know exactly what I want to do with my life. I have my major picked out and I already know the path I want to embark upon. However, for many it is really hard figuring out what you want to do with the rest of life. Continue reading

Think before you post

It seems that everyone is on Facebook, Twitter and every other social networking outlet and that can be both good and bad. I know people hear that you shouldn’t post anything you wouldn’t want your parents to see all the time. However, many don’t take heed to that advice. It’s so crucial to not do things that could jeopardize your future. There are so many college admissions counselors that are online and can see all of your information. If you post an unsavory picture, you’re messing up you chance of getting into the school you want. Continue reading
