I Have Arrived…
On August 22nd, I moved into my dorm at Michigan State University. At first, I felt a bit nervous and didn’t know if I would like the whole college thing. However, once I walked around campus on Thursday, I felt … Continue reading
It’s Been Awhile
Well, with school tests and having a job, I haven’t gotten around to blogging, and I am sorry about that. So, I do plan on getting back on track and blogging atleast once a week. Starting next week I am … Continue reading
MIT: Spend Time Working on Essays!
A friend who is touring east coast colleges this week with his son sent me a note from the road. I asked him to keep an ear for relevant college information related to college essays. He was happy to report … Continue reading
The next level: Junior year
This is my first time as a blogger so i am very excited!
This year it is all about joining new activities and things in my school at Roseville High. I think it is very important to join clubs, sports, etc. This is important because getting involved in your school is exciting and you will meet new people. You find out how good you are at things and how many friends you can make. I love high school and i am going to make the best of my next two years.
AOP, State & Me
I recently finished AOP (Academic Orientation Program) at Michigan State. It was pretty exciting, I met new people and experienced just a bit of college life. The sessions provided a lot of great resources and they made me really sure of the success I can achieve at State. Though AOP was fun, it made me aware of the responsibilities that come along with college. I was able to schedule classes and that’s when the real feel of college life came hit me. Scheduling classes proved to be a long process, for me anyway.
It’s MI Life Conference: What a day!
The first It’s MI Life Conference took place Tuesday, June 29 at U-M Dearborn. There were more than 30 high school and college mentors in attendance for a day of workshops and interaction with other teens interested in life after high school.
Here are some photos from the day.
Conference, Finals, and Summer, Oh My!
As I start this blog, I admit to being a little unhinged, and more than a little frazzled. It’s finals week, and I’m halfway done with the massive tests that determine my final grades. That comes together to create a very stresed Stacy. However, I’m trying to look past the end of this week to the word we’re all looking forward to: SUMMER! Summer means vacation, flip-flops, bathing suits, pools, friends, and fun. This year, it also means the It’s Mi Life College Tools and Tips Conference. If you’re not excited yet, I’d like to give you a few reasons why you should be! Continue reading
How important is the college essay?
Hello students. It is a pleasure to be part of It’s MI Life, and we look forward to blogging for this site. I am Kim Lifton, a journalist, executive ghost writer, blogger and writing teacher. I started a company with my long-time business partner, Susan Knoppow, to help kids write better. We named it Wow Writing Workshop because we want you to wow people who read your writing. Our focus: the college essay.
On our own blog (found at www.wowwritingworkshop.com), we write about the college entrance process, tips for writing compelling essays and success stories.
Compromising for the Sake of Sanity
As an impulsive person, it’s hard to make a decision or come to a general consensus of what to do. The biggest decision of my life so far came when May 1 rolled around. For those who don’t know, May 1 is the day when high school seniors make their final decision regarding what college to go to. It was a pretty big deal for me; I was torn between 3 schools for a while and then it came to the final 2. I had plans to leave the state, but little did I know, when you leave the state the costs are super inflated. However, if I stayed in Michigan, then I would be paying much less. Continue reading
