School
Don't suffer from Senioritis
I know that as a senior, it's extremely hard to focus. You're excited about graduation, prom and college and the reality of all the fun you can have hits. You realize that school is almost over for you and you're on your way to adulthood. You start to slack off in school and everything that you've worked for goes downhill.
Senior year can be both good and bad. The good thing is you're finally graduating and you are finally able to attend college. The bad thing is if you slack off, your dream college might not want you anymore.
Giving Back
In my senior year, (well, the first semester since I'm still a senior) I joined a student service group. It was by far one of the best decisions I made. At first, I joined because I wanted another extracurricular activity, but as I volunteered it became more than that. I learned the importance of helping others and being grateful for what I have. I had the chance to work with adults who were developmentally disabled and it was one of the most impactful experiences of my life.
Losing faith
I have found and often times seen during my High School and Junior High career is that often time’s students lose sight of their goals. Take me for example, almost every school year, I start the year off with good grades, I get my homework done, and I'm able to balance school and extra-circulars. But then second quarter came and I started slacking off, and my grades reflected my effort. I didn’t feel I needed to try anymore, and that spending time with friends and what not was more important than my academics.
Bad Behavior Isn't Cool
A lot of students think they can do whatever they want in school. They rack up detention slips and suspensions like they're trophies. But, I guess they don't realize that those things can be destructive when applying to college.
Teachers are less prone to give recommendations to students who act up in school. And all college apps ask if you've ever been suspended or expelled and why. Colleges don't want to admit students with behavior troubles. Being disruptive gives you a bad reputation and it doesn't work in your favor.
