College Tools and Tips Conference
Are you interested in learning some tools and tips for preparing for college? It's MI Life is sponsoring a free conference June 29 at the University of Michigan Dearborn campus, and we'd love for you to join us for a day of workshops and fun, designed to help you plan for college and your future.
Here's what's on the agenda:
7 Tips: How to survive Freshman year
I'm going into my sophomore year of high school, but when I stopped and thought about those that are going to be freshman, I realized they might like some guidance. So, based on last year, here are a few words to the wise:
1. Be organized going in. I don't care if it looks dorky. Get that binder, a folder for each class, and a notebook you can count on. Make sure you have pencils, pens, and highlighters. Label it all.
Cure for Summer Boredom
We've all been there. You wait all year for summer to come along and 1 month after it starts your bored out of your mind. Yes, we've already been to the mall more times than we'd like to remember. And yes, the movie theater ushers know us by name from all the movies we've gone to see (Harry Potter FTW!).
So this begs the question "Now what?" Well, here's a few things that keep myself entertained during those long, hot summer days. You can try them out for yourself, or come up with some of your own :)
How to Find Your "In"
What makes colleges want you? It's competitive out there, and sometimes the test scores and GPA's aren't enough by themselves. What can you do? Studying and grades aside, here are a few ways you can make yourself more desirable.
-Find something that you have a talent for. Are you good at lacrosse? Great at being the head of your school's recycling program? If you like doing it, and have a knack for it, colleges will like it, too.
