Scholarships & Essays

Getting into college is the easy part; the real work comes in when you're looking for free money. There are tons of scholarship opportunities out there, but you really have to look for them. Scholarships are pretty easy to find, but they require a lot of work. It takes a lot of patience to search for all the opportunities that are out there. It's best to have a folder or binder solely dedicated to scholarships and a planner that keeps track of all the scholarship deadlines you find.

Final Decisions

I haven't blogged in quite a long time. I finally came to a decision about my college choice and I've selected....Bowling Green State University. It's about an hour and a half away from Detroit and I think that it'll be a great fit for me. I visited the school on Feb. 15 for President's Day since I had a scholarship interview there. I really feel like I belong there, everything is just amazing. I was a little apprehensive about leaving the state, but I am very content with my choice. I'm not really sure how my interview went, but I can only pray for the best.

March 1st and Paying For College

Is it just me or is everything due March 1st?

I have had so many things that need to be turned in on March first that I'm freaking out a litte. Sure, in January, March 1st seemed decades away. But now--it's like, what a week away?

College tutition downpayments, housing fees, housing applications, AP test checks, sports forms.

My whole life comes down to March 1st! I thiink I'm going to pay at least 500 dollars on that day. And then comes Prom...

Selecting A College

I'm happy to say that I finally decided upon a college. I'll be attending Bowling Green State University in the fall. I was accepted to all of the schools I applied to, but BG seemed to be the best fit and I'm very satisfied with my choice of attending an out-of-state school. I feel that it was a lot better than just staying in state. I'll become more independent and able to live on my own. Now the thing is finding scholarships. It's a real scavenger hunt, trying to find all of the free money. My holiday break is going to be filled with FAFSA and scholarship apps.

How to choose what college is right for you

First of all, when you choose a college, it has to be a place where you want to be. You have to see yourself in the college in a couple of years.

Size-You have to choose the size you want. Do you want small school where all the professors know your names, or a big school where you are just a spec in the crowd?

Cost- Of course cost is a factor in everyone's decision. (unless you are a millionaire, then you dont have to worry about the money aspect).

Paying for College

I'm really happy that I'll be able to attend college soon. But, like most students I'm worried about the cost. I'm happy that I participated in other things and I hope to continue doing so; those things allow students to have a better chance of getting scholarships.

Most people don't realize it, but you can receive scholarships from almost everywhere. There are scholarships for kids who bowl and a wide array of other criteria that increase the chances for scholarships.
